See NYC From the Water: Sail With Event Cruises

Spread the love

Tired of all the typical, touristy activities in New York City? Looking for a different way to experience the city that never sleeps? You’ve probably already seen a lot of the city on foot but you can experience New York from a different perspective. Well, now you can see NYC from the water: sail with Event Cruises.

I recently got to set sail with Event Cruises this past Spring not once, but twice. It was an absolutely amazing experience and I recommend everyone to sail with them. Perfect for a date night with your partner or with friends, Event Cruises offers an array of cruises. There are also cruises curated for special holidays, like July 4th, Mother’s Day, etc.

I got to experience both the Skyline Dinner Cruise as well as the Cinco de Mayo. Both cruises depart at 7pm from Pier 36. As soon as you get on the boat, you’re met with photo opportunities. The majority of the tables are window side, so you can catch all the views whether you’re on the inside or outside. All guests also have access to the decks, so you can walk around at any point of the cruise. There’s the main deck as well as the top deck, which offer 360 views. For this reason, I suggest you get there a little earlier than 7pm. Guests can start boarding at around 6:30, so get there early to get some photos before the boat starts moving. From the top sky deck, you can get great shots with the Manhattan Bridge in the background.

You’ll first place your meal order for the night. For the dinner cruises, you get a three course meal and a complimentary glass of champagne (additional drinks are available at an extra cost). I selected the tuna tostada for appetizers, Atlantic salmon for dinner, and churros for dessert. All were absolutely delicious! Some of the holiday cruises already have a pre-fixed menu, so for the Cinco de Mayo cruise, a full taco/enchilada bar was available along with unlimited beers and wines.

While you’re waiting for your meal, head out onto the decks as the boat takes off. The route starts off heading south along the FDR drive and you will get to sail right under the Manhattan and Brooklyn Bridge! Talk about a unique perspective! The cruise continues wrapping around the tip of Manhattan and towards the Meatpacking District. You’ll get to see the World Trade Center as well as Little Island and more.

Eventually the boat turns back and heads towards the highlight of the night, the Statue of Liberty! By this time your dinner will be served, and since you’re facing Jersey anyways, it’s a perfect time to sit down and enjoy your meal.

Getting to see the Statue of Liberty was definitely a highlight of the cruise for me. You get such a great view from the boat, and the DJ (yes, there’s a live DJ on all cruises) always pauses to play Alicia Keys’ and Jay-Z’s “Empire State of Mind.” What a moment!

The cruise continues circling back towards the pier, at which point it’s already dark, so this time around you get to see the skyline lit up. Since the dinner cruises are three hours, I took about an hour to just sit out on the top deck and enjoy the peace and quiet. No photos, just taking it all in for the memory.

After dinner, the DJ turns things up and it’s time to dance the rest of the night away! Cue the Cha-Cha Slide and the Cupid Shuffle! See my Cinco de Mayo cruise highlights below:

The experience was such a good time and I’m glad I got to experience it twice. Definitely not the last time I’ll be sailing around Manhattan, as I think now it’s my favorite way to see the city! As we get closer to the end of summer, if you’re looking for something different and fun to do, check out one of these NYC cruises! There are also brunch cruises, as well as wine and cheese tasting and even whale watching cruises! So many great options to pick from, but you’re guaranteed a good time on all of them!
